In the time of COVID—whether your school is in person, fully remote, or using a hybrid model—attending to the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of students and colleagues has become a marathon of perseverance. What do counselors need in order to provide for others while also taking care of themselves?

This workshop will invite participants to understand that there are common and effective development practices that also support values of equity and inclusivity. Through planning and practice, we will consider how our advancement conversations and messaging can be both inclusive and compelling.

What challenges do folks who engage in equity and justice work in schools (administrators and teachers) currently face? This Community Conversation will offer a brief introduction of the issues, move to breakout groups focused on community-building and sharing.

Engage with veteran facilitators to learn common facilitation models, avoid pitfalls, and manage polarity. Learn visual facilitation from experts to help people see issues and perspectives more clearly. Through this workshop, participants will have an opportunity to unpack practical strategies on facilitating courageous conversations, practice facilitating, and leave with a visual toolset to deepen their practice.

In this two-session program, we will explore the core components of inquiry-based learning, focusing on the ways that an IBL task can foster student engagement, increase motivation, and develop skills like critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration.

This Community Conversation will provide a space for APISA educators to connect, reflect, and share about our perspectives, histories, and experiences as we navigate how we choose to act as co-conspirators in schools whose histories and structures are built on white supremacy and anti-Blackness.

In this workshop we will use the framework of ambiguous loss pioneered by Pauline Boss to understand our responses to so much uncertainty and ambiguity. While some worry that “giving in” to our sadness will lead to emotional collapse, sharing experiences in a structured, intentional way, provides relief and brings people together.

In this workshop, middle and high school educators will explore the components of hybrid learning in order to create their own flexible course structure.

This workshop focuses on the “on the ground” strategies faculty and administrators can use to better support Black students. We will take some time to build an understanding of implicit bias and the influence of the BLM movement on the experiences of Black youth.

This three-session series will provide practical tools, resources, and strategies for educators who are currently facilitating, or considering implementing, racial affinity groups.

This Community Conversation offers a framework for arts teachers to check-in and take stock, to learn and look forward. We’ll reflect on challenges in the time of Covid-19, but also share discoveries, strategies and innovations.
