In what ways can educators lay the foundation for all students to engage in mathematics? In this one day workshop PK-12 educators will learn about teacher and student mindsets that develop cultures of mathematical thinking, reasoning, and problem solving. Participants will analyze their belief systems about learning mathematics and understand how their beliefs impact student learning.

In this 2-hour virtual workshop, educators will have a chance to explore resources and methods that allow them to infuse environmental sustainability and climate literacy across their existing curriculum using an inquiry-based approach rooted in project-based learning. Together we will create space for conversations about leveraging our roles and positionalities to advance equity in our school practices, procedures, and systems.

In this one day in-person workshop, we will explore what a differentiated classroom looks like using the work of researchers Dr. Carol Ann Tomlinson and Dr. John Hattie. Participants will develop an understanding of differentiation and will gain practical skills and tools to use right away to foster a community of respect, engagement, and learning with their students.

This Summer Institute grows out of the explosion of interest in how teachers can best build a culture of thinking in their classrooms, nurture students as powerful thinkers and learners, and make thinking visible. This five-part series will cover effective assessment and equitable grading practices. Participants will also have the chance to design a unit around essential learning goals.

This series is designed for 7th-12th grade humanities teachers, humanities department chairs, academic deans, and directors of 21st century learning. New teachers as well as mid-career and veteran teachers interested in reassessing their approach to teaching writing are welcome.
