This virtual Summer Institute is designed to teach educators about the core concepts and foundations of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), practical applications of UDL to lesson design, and how to support flexible, inclusive instruction. Join us to discuss how all learners can meet high expectations.

Burnout is one of the biggest liabilities facing schools. Levels keep increasing for educators and common methods used to address it struggle to yield lasting positive impact. Failure to address burnout will result in increased escalations, increased rates of disengaged employees, and increased turnover. Addressing burnout is also critical to DEI work as burnout has disproportionate effects on educators. In this free Skill Up! session we will explore types of burnout, causes, and sustainable solutions so your school can reimagine its approach.

The histories and present day realities of all racialized groups in our country are complex and interconnected. Alongside inspiring examples of Black-Asian solidarity, there is a pervasive background racial tension among students and between even the closest of colleagues. Understanding that building our capacity for allyship with one another requires us to acknowledge that we are racialized differently–within our schools and our larger society– Nikkia’s freedom dream for AAPI Heritage Month in 2023 includes co-creating a space for Black and APISA educators and allies to come together to cultivate authentic cross-racial solidarity that nourishes, shelters and uplifts us and our communities. This program will break it down, make it real, make connections, and move toward action!

In this virtual workshop, participants will learn to develop strategies and practices that support personal, professional, and organizational goals for staff development. Participants will learn to apply theories on equity-based leadership, management, and decision-making to how they manage and supervise their diverse teams.

Through a series of small-group discussions and activities, participants will walk away with practical tips and strategies to reinvigorate ways new faculty and staff members enter a school’s community.

This working group of LGBTQ+* professionals will provide a unique opportunity for educators to connect in a confidential, respectful, and relaxed atmosphere. The ultimate goal is to develop a network of LGBTQ+ educators which continues well beyond our three meetings.

In this interactive and practical Skill Up! session, STEM educators will engage with the concept of decolonizing their curricula, as well as reflect on concepts, tools, and resources that can be integrated into specific lessons and content. Participants will debunk the assumption that this work can happen more naturally in the humanities.

In this one-day workshop, participants will explore the ways that puppets and stuffed animals can be used in the classroom as tools to support learning of challenging concepts, and develop a lesson plan or activity integrating puppets and stuffed animals.

This three-part hybrid series will provide practical tools, resources, templates, strategies, and mutual support for educators who are currently facilitating, or considering implementing, racial affinity groups. Participants will explore affinity group curriculum topics including scope and sequence, sample model structures and frameworks.

In this interactive virtual workshop, we will examine the current state of athletics and the policies that affect trans and non-binary athletes, review gender identities and inclusive language, and brainstorm ways to make athletic programs and institutions more equitable for all genders.

In this one-day workshop at Pilgrim School in Los Angeles, PK-12 educators will deepen their understanding of the purpose and function of assessment of- and for- learning. Participants will analyze their current assessment structures to ensure equity and access are at the forefront.

In this 2-hour workshop, educators will deepen their understanding of Native history and how to revise and build curricula that integrate Native values. The program will support non-Native educators in teaching Native history and curriculum responsibly and respectfully.

​This one-day workshop will provide tools and strategies, rooted in evidence-based psychological science, to help educators respond to bias in values-based ways.

This 3-hour workshop, led by the Redbud Resource Group, will support independent school educators across California in deepening their cultural and historical understanding of Native communities, land acknowledgment practices, and their personal and school relationships with Native peoples.

This ongoing program is designed to meet early childhood educators where they are on their journey to integrating anti-bias work into early childhood learning. The blended, ongoing format of the program strives to build community and create space for the reflective practices necessary when committing to this critical work.
