ABOUT THIS VIRTUAL WORKSHOP SERIES

This program is designed for mid-career educators seeking to reignite their purpose, clarify their path forward, and build community with colleagues at the same point in their careers. Facilitated by mid-career teacher leader, Taryn Marshall, and Licensed Clinical Social Worker and school-based mental health practitioner, Jill Ma, this program will blend action-oriented growth with support from program leaders anchored in validation, empowerment, and advocacy work. If you're feeling stagnant or seeking support systems, this program offers a dedicated space to reflect, reset, and plan. We'll hear from participants about their day-to-day challenges of teaching, share in the process of how to navigate this professional period, and explore long-term goals and aspirations. Leave this workshop feeling empowered, with a renewed sense of purpose and a clear, actionable vision for the next phase of your career. It's time to build on your years of experience and start your next chapter with intention!

Participants will:

  • Redefine Purpose: Connect with the core values that drew you to education and discover how they can guide your future
  • Identify Strengths: Recognize and leverage the unique skills and expertise you've developed over your career
  • Explore Long-Term Goals: Develop new opportunities for personalized growth and how to “know things differently.” Delve into the uniqueness of growth, including growth within the role of classroom teaching, as well as mentorship, development, advocacy, and leadership
  • Create Community: Build a professional support system with those navigating similar places in their careers

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

Taryn Marshall, CATDC Facilitator

Taryn Marshall is Lower and Upper School History Instructor at Marlborough School, Los Angeles. Since earning her M. Ed. at UCLA’s School of Education, she has been a founding history teacher for a girls’ public charter middle school in Los Angeles valley, and then transitioned to Marlborough in 2020. In her current position at Marlborough, she teaches a 7th grade Civics and Citizenship course, an interdisciplinary 10th grade American Studies History course, and advises multiple groups of 12th grade students in Honors Research in Social Sciences and Capstone internship program. Taryn’s interest lies in the intersectionality of gender equity, as can be reflected in her experiences such as earning her B.A. in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from a women’s college, and working with a feminist non-profit for high school students in Newark, NJ. Her current interest is thinking about how to center teacher and students’ authentic selves for joy and learning in the classroom.

Jill Ma, CATDC Facilitator
