Executive Function for K-5 Students

ABOUT THIS IN-PERSON INTENSIVE

Have you noticed a growing number of students struggling with organizing their materials, following daily routines, managing their time effectively, and staying focused during lessons? You are not alone. Increasingly, educators are observing that students are finding it harder to develop essential executive function (EF) skills, which are critical for their academic success and overall development.

This interactive 1-day workshop is designed to equip Grades K-5 educators with the insights and resources needed to support and enhance the development of executive function (EF) skills in their students. By integrating these skills into the classroom curriculum, teachers will help improve overall academic performance and promote positive classroom behaviors. Additionally, we will concentrate on designing classroom environments that foster EF skill development, creating an educational space tailored to meet the diverse needs of all learners. You will leave with practical tools and strategies to support the development of organizational skills, time management, problem-solving, impulse control, working memory, increased independence, and resilience in your students.

Participants will:

  • Identify signs of EF skill deficits and understand their impact on student learning and behavior
  • Explore tools and strategies that can be integrated into daily routines and lessons to enhance EF skills.
  • Learn how to differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students with varying levels of EF skills
  • Learn how to intentionally set up learning environments that promote student attention and positive engagement
  • Observe classrooms where the strategies and tools are being integrated and the impact this is having on students and school culture
  • Engage in grade-level and cross-grade-level teams and discussions to support student long-term success
