Executive Funcitioning workshop with CATDC

ABOUT THIS IN-PERSON INTENSIVE

In this dynamic and interactive workshop, participants will learn concrete strategies to meet neurodiverse learners where they are and help them strengthen essential executive functioning and social-emotional skills. With current research on the developing brain and real-life case examples, we’ll explore how and why executive functioning skills and social competence are critical to the lives of all students, especially those with learning disabilities, ADHD, level one autism and twice exceptionality. Based on her unique 5C’s of ADHD™ approach, Dr. Saline will share strategies for managing anxiety, improving motivation and supporting relational development. Exercises designed to improve participants’ understanding of living with learning differences, teaching students with these challenges, and discussion about specific classroom challenges are threaded throughout the workshop. Practical, collaborative tools will be offered for engaging students more effectively, coping with worries, managing negativity, addressing social challenges, and managing low motivation. Participants will leave with tangible strategies for identifying and nurturing both cognitive strengths and social communication in their students to help them develop resilience and confidence. This workshop will be both didactic and experiential in nature.

Participants will:

  • Identify the biological, behavioral and emotional factors related to ADHD, neurodivergence as well as executive functioning skills
  • Examine current research on ADHD and executive functioning including medical and non-medical treatment options
  • Discuss how co-existing disorders, learning disabilities, trauma and substance abuse affect ADHD and executive functioning skills in children and teens
  • Define executive functioning skills and use effective, collaborative strategies for improving them
  • Describe how to implement practical and useful treatment interventions for reducing conflict and improving cooperation with neurodiverse children, teens and their families
