Women + Leadership (Southern California)
Cultivating Our Collective Wisdom
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Join the California Teacher Development Collaborative for our annual Women + Leadership Conference! This impactful event brings together women-identified educators from schools throughout the region to celebrate our journeys and strengthen our individual and collective impact.
Our theme for Women + Leadership 2026 is Cultivating Our Collective Wisdom. Committees made up of women leaders from our member schools have designed a conference that centers the wisdom within our school communities and how we can learn from and continue to grow with each other.
The essential questions informing the day are:
- How have our experiences as women (moms, daughters, caregivers, sisters, etc) in education shaped the wisdom we bring into our classrooms and communities?
- What inspiring women models have you had on your journey? How have you been nurtured by the larger community, and how have you given back?
- How can sharing our collective wisdom be an act of liberation?
Our day will include responsive and engaging activities focused on collective wisdom, a panel of extraordinary women-identified leaders from our community, opportunities to network with other independent school educators, and an immersive workshop facilitated by Veronica Scott and Rebecca Bellingham, authors of The Artful Approach to Exploring Identity and Fostering Belonging, and The Artful Read Aloud.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the Cholita Climbers, we will share a comprehensive project celebrating women who have “climbed mountains” and inspired change with their leadership. Through this workshop, we’ll model how to create cultural celebrations that are both affirming for people who can speak from the “I-Perspective”and invitational for all. We will also walk participants through a writing workshop that demonstrates how to use fresh media and mentor texts to reflect artfully as a team.
This workshop will be both restorative and practical. Not only will this be an opportunity to learn from each other's stories and build community as women in leadership, but participants will leave with a toolkit for adapting and leading a similar kind of experience in their own community.
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Women + Leadership is an affinity space that is welcoming and respectful of women of all backgrounds, including trans women, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming individuals who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women. We recognize and acknowledge the intersection of race and gender identities, and it is our hope that we can offer an inclusive and intentional space that challenges white supremacy and celebrates the uniqueness, experiences, and contributions of each participant.
