Radical Care: Healing Ourselves and Our Schools
Conference: 9:00am - 3:00pm
Optional Happy Hour: 3:00pm - 4:00pm
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Join the California Teacher Development Collaborative for our annual Women + Leadership Conference! This powerful event brings together women educators from schools throughout the region to celebrate our journeys and strengthen our individual and collective impact.
Our theme for Women + Leadership 2024 is Radical Care: Healing Ourselves and Our Schools. Committees made up of women leaders from our member schools have designed an inspiring day centered on an intimate conversation with Dr. Dena Simmons, whose work intersects social and emotional learning (SEL), racial justice, and healing. Together we will explore such essential questions as:
How can we model connection, collaboration, and joy for our students by prioritizing our own? How do we build the type of school community that prioritizes a culture of care? What societal barriers to radical care surface in our institutions? How do these barriers unfairly impact women of the global majority? Beginning to answer these important questions together, we will deepen our understanding of the critical link between the social and emotional well being of adults and young people in our schools.
In addition to our time with Dr. Dena Simmons and a panel made up of dynamic women leaders, our day will include engaging activities focused on individual and collective healing, personal and professional growth, along with plenty of opportunities to connect with other independent school educators.
Featured Presenters and Activities:
- Dr. Dena Simmons, founder of LiberatED, an organization that centers radical love, healing, and justice in education so that all children could live, learn, and thrive in the comfort of their own skin
- Panel discussion with women leaders
- Experiential activities to facilitate connections, develop new skills, and inspire us to build a community of care
- Time for reflection and restoration
- A hosted-happy hour from 3:00 - 4:00pm for continued discussion and networking
INTENDED AUDIENCE
Women + Leadership is an affinity space that is welcoming and respectful of women of all backgrounds, including trans women, nonbinary, and gender non-conforming individuals who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women. We recognize and acknowledge the intersection of race and gender identities, and it is our hope that we can offer an inclusive and intentional space that challenges white supremacy and celebrates the uniqueness, experiences, and contributions of each participant.
