SESSION 1: August 12, 2024 | 8:30am - 3:00pm

SESSION 2: August 13, 2024 | 8:30am - 3:00pm

Transform your meetings, professional development, and facilitation with The Design Lab workshop series. This two-day program is designed to take you on a journey through transformative professional design and facilitation experiences. Drawing upon research-informed practices, transformational adult learning theory, Universal Design for Learning, and liberatory design, The Design Lab provides a unique opportunity to revitalize your meeting ideas, opening week workshops, professional learning days, or any other gathering. Come away with practical tools you can use right away and a community of leaders who are inspired to remake what’s possible for adults.

A resource booklet will be provided to support your ongoing development. Whether you're a seasoned facilitator or a new leader, this workshop will provide you with valuable insights and practical skills to enhance your professional practice.

In this workshop, you'll:

  • Reflect on, assess, refine, and redefine what makes professional learning and meetings transformational
  • Create conditions and new systems for adult learning
  • Design a professional development session, meeting, or equivalent content
  • Explore effective facilitation skills through reflection and practice
  • Build connections among participants

  • Redefining Professional Learning
  • The Who, What, Why, How, and Who of Professional Learning
  • Approaching Design with Intention
  • Details for Belonging and Psychological Safety

  • Self-Knowledge and Power as a Facilitator
  • Putting Tools into Practice
  • Assessing for Impact and Working with Feedback

Lori Cohen, CATDC Facilitator

Lori Cohen has worked in education (both public and independent schools) for over two decades serving as a teacher, instructional coach, school leader, and professional development facilitator, and published author whose expertise spans a range of topics: new teacher development, writing instruction, culturally responsive teaching practices, team development, Transformational Coaching, equity-focused conversations, resilience-building, curriculum development, growth and evaluation, assessment, and scope/sequence work. Lori brings intentionality and a broad array of skillsets to her design and facilitation—all through the lenses of equity and inclusion. She designs and facilitates with a balance of humility, humor, and heart.

Lori currently works as an educational consultant . You can learn more about her here. She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her partner. When Lori isn’t consulting, coaching, leading workshops, or writing, Lori is running through the gorgeous landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, drinking delicious coffee, obsessing over her dog, or scoping out the latest restaurant..

CATDC partners with member schools to host our in-person programs, providing educators the opportunity to learn with peers in diverse settings. We are thrilled to partner with Curtis School on this Summer Institute, welcoming the larger independent school community on their campus for two days of learning and collaboration.
