Tammi Abad, CATDC Facilitator

Tammi Abad

Tammi Abad is in her eleventh year at Burke’s, where she is a 4th-grade teacher and the Director of the Associate Teacher Program. One of the most rewarding aspects of her career is supporting and mentoring educators at the start of their teaching journeys. A Bay Area native, Tammi has been teaching since 1995. She started her career in public schools teaching K-8. When she relocated to New Orleans in 2005, Tammi began working at Louise McGehee, a K-8 single-gender school. Shortly after she was hired, Hurricane Katrina devastated the city. Tammi continued her work in all-girls schools when she moved to New York City in 2007 and took on the role of Lower School Math Specialist, and after identifying the need for mentorship, created an Associate Teacher program at Convent of Sacred Heart. After 8 years and the birth of her son, Joshua, she decided to move back to the Bay Area to raise him near her close-knit family.  Tammi is excited to facilitate this workshop with Sarah, whom she met while building professional community through CATDC.

Foundations in Practice: Tools and Community for Assistant Teachers

This virtual ongoing program offers practical tools and strategies to enhance the work of assistant teachers in the classroom, with a focus on effective collaboration, student engagement, and responsive support. In addition to skill-building, the ongoing sessions will provide a space for assistant teachers to share experiences, ask questions, and build a strong sense of community with colleagues throughout the state.
