Positive culture change that is people-centered ultimately reduces workload and increases joy because the results include: fewer emotionally tangled email threads, less charged parent/guardian conversations regarding discipline and boundaries, and a greater understanding between faculty and staff, parents and students overall. This hybrid ongoing program offers a space for coaches and mentors to evolve their current skills and build community with coaching colleagues. Seasoned coaches will facilitate as you add to your toolkit, refine strategies you can apply immediately, and will differentiate experiences for novice and experienced coaches.

Giving effective feedback is one of the most powerful tools for improving teaching practice, student learning, and professional collaboration. However, feedback is often avoided, misunderstood, or delivered in ways that can create resistance rather than growth. This workshop helps educators and leaders build confidence in giving and receiving feedback, shift feedback conversations from evaluative to developmental, and foster a culture of trust, reflection, and continuous improvement.

In collaboration with Flintridge Prep, the first-ever Southern California Teaching Symposium: Creating Connections invites teachers, innovators, and thought leaders to participate in a day-long conference where we’ll celebrate teaching and learning. We’ll imagine how our students can most effectively learn key skills and concepts, while also learning deeply and supporting each other in an educational world that asks for flexibility and growth.

Across two-days, educators will practice intentional habits that help students and adults alike “listen deeply, speak truth with dignity, risk failure, build belonging, and see the whole student.” Participants will leave with concrete strategies ready to bring back to their schools and classrooms, ensuring that humanity remains at the heart of teaching and learning in the age of AI.

This workshop is transformative for anyone who leads groups of colleagues or students, whether teachers, department chairs, academic deans, or school heads. Join us for this dynamic 3-day Summer Institute to transform teacher evaluation from a compliance-driven task into a meaningful, growth-oriented process. We will explore how to reimagine evaluation as an act of “tending the ecosystem,” a collaborative and continuous practice rooted in equity, well-being, and professional growth. Participants will engage with research-based tools for assessing instruction and classroom culture, receive practical, easy-to-adapt frameworks for their school sites, and leave with a clear road map for collaboratively designing an evaluation system that better supports the flourishing of both educators and students at their schools.

The Department Chairs Institute will guide participants in exploring the multilayered challenges of this unique position and in developing the knowledge, skills, and strategies needed to become effective department leaders.
