ABOUT THIS ONLINE ONGOING PROGRAM
Co-facilitated by experienced educators, this ongoing virtual program affirms and uplifts the work of independent school teachers while offering tools and strategies to deepen instructional impact. As a learning cohort, we will explore this essential question:
How can we, as experienced educators, refine and expand our practice to better meet the needs of all learners, strengthening student readiness, sustaining joy, and continuing to grow professionally?
Designed to model the kinds of inclusive, engaging and evidenced-based practice we aim to cultivate in the classroom, this program will provide opportunities for structured inquiry, collaborative dialogue, and practical application.
Participants will:
- Reconnect with their teaching identity and explore the role of emotion, relationships, and joy in their practice
- Strengthen instructional design through the lenses of UbD, UDL, and differentiation to increase access and deep understanding for all learners
- Expand inclusive practices that center dignity, belonging, and learner variability as an asset
- Align assessment practices with meaningful learning—examining grading, productive struggle, and student feedback from their own classrooms
- Synthesize their learning into action, developing tools for teacher inquiry and peer leadership within their schools
AUDIENCE
This program is designed for independent school educators with 5–15 years of experience who are ready to deepen their practice, reconnect with purpose, and expand their impact.
ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Janine Extavour is the Director of Teaching & Learning at Sonoma Academy in Santa Rosa, where she leads initiatives focused on instructional practice, faculty development, and the student learning experience. Building a culture where all learners and educators feel connected, challenged, and inspired, guides Janine’s approach to professional learning. She leads with equal parts joy, head and heart.
