Celebrating 10 Years of LEADERSHIP FELLOWS

Built for California's independent school leaders

The job of an independent school leader is like no other. It is complicated and deeply rewarding, and on some days it is pretty darn tough. When CATDC launched Leadership Fellows in 2016, the idea was straightforward: California's independent school leaders deserved a regional program designed specifically to support their path to senior leadership, one that would give them the knowledge, the reflection time, and the community to achieve their goals. Ten years later, the program continues to evolve, staying responsive to the realities of what it means to lead an independent school today, and we are so excited to invite you to join us for our 10th cohort.

Vision + Priorities (3)

Justin Riddle, 23-24 Cohort

My first introduction to the powerful impact of CATDC came through the 2023-24 Leadership Fellows cohort. During this year-long experience, I gained valuable insights into who I am as a leader, who I hope to become, and the steps I need to take to get there. Truly, the most impactful part of my time with CATDC has been the relationships I’ve formed with thoughtful, passionate, and caring facilitators and participants. These connections and friendships are what make CATDC such a transformative and lasting part of my professional journey.

Kriston Simons, 24-25 Cohort

I had the wonderful opportunity to join the Leadership Fellowship program through CATDC during the 2024-25 school year. Over the year Leadership Fellows provided many opportunities to reflect, engage, and connect with other leaders in California. We met several times in person and virtually to learn from one another and exchange ideas about our leadership positions. I appreciated the personal reflection time and mentorship throughout the year which enhanced my skills as a leader of a small, independent school on the northern coast. Thank you to Crystal and Phil who came with a wealth of experience to the program and created a wonderful community of educators throughout the year. I am so fortunate to have taken part in this professional development. I will have the opportunity to connect with experienced school leaders throughout California for support moving forward. Thank you so much for all you do CATDC to support educators along their journey!

Applications are now open for the 2026–2027 Leadership Fellows cohort, offered in partnership with CAIS. For this 10th anniversary cohort, CAIS schools that are not currently CATDC member schools may participate at the CATDC member rate.

Thanks to the Janet McGarvey Fund, a limited number of scholarships are available for Leadership Fellows participants. To learn more and apply for a scholarship, please find the application here. We encourage interested leaders to apply and welcome school leaders to share this opportunity with colleagues who would benefit from this experience.
