ABOUT THIS IN-PERSON ONGOING PROGRAM
This semi-annual retreat series provides a dedicated environment for school counselors to engage in deep-dive clinical reflection and peer consultation. Participants will have an opportunity to address the core psychological and ethical complexities of the field. Areas of focus include:
- Managing the unique ethical tensions that arise when maintaining clinical confidentiality within a non-clinical school environment.
- Strategic discernment in identifying "the client" within a school system.
- Addressing countertransference, mitigating compassion fatigue, and developing sustainable self-care
- Considering the impact of the current political climate on the school
- Collaborating and sharing what’s working and brainstorming solutions
Participants will:
- Understand the systemic complexities of identifying "the client"
- Enhance clinical self awareness
- Practice peer consultation allowing for honest clinical reflection
- Develop sustainable self care plan to mitigate burn out
- Explore navigating professional boundaries

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR
Katherine Preston is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and has been practicing for over 30 years. She is currently the Director of Counseling and Wellness at SF Friends. She maintains a private practice in San Francisco and has held many clinical leadership positions overseeing and providing training and supervision for clinicians offering therapeutic services for families and children throughout the Bay Area, as well as taught graduate level human development and trainee practicum courses. She has offered clinical case consultation and supervision in varied settings for many years.
HOST AND PARTNER SCHOOL
CATDC partners with member schools to host our in-person programs, providing educators the opportunity to learn with peers in diverse settings. We are thrilled to partner with Burke's on this ongoing program, welcoming the larger independent school community to meet on their campus throughout the school year.
