Teaching Foundations

The CATDC’s “Teaching Foundations” program is designed to support the growth and success of all teachers—particularly those in their early years at independent schools—by focusing on foundational areas of classroom teaching.

Sessions are organized around designing curriculum, developing pedagogical techniques, creating effective classroom environments and cultures, building successful professional relationships, and sustaining a career in teaching.

Led by four master teachers and administrators, and featuring special guest speakers and presenters, this respected program provides participants with personalized attention and specific grade-level instruction.  Emphasis is placed on using best practices for lesson planning, classroom management, and assessment as well as on developing communication skills, cultural competencies, and confidence as an advisor and leader.  Even seasoned teachers find useful tools and benefit from the opportunity to work with top educators in a supportive, inclusive atmosphere.



Lori Cohen

Lori Cohen do my spanish homework Lori Cohen is a Humanities Teacher and Teaching Fellows Coordinator at The Bay School of San Francisco.  get link Lori joined The Bay School faculty in 2005 after teaching humanities and Middle Eastern and Asian literature at C.K. McClatchy High School in Sacramento. Lori has been very active in a number of professional programs both outside and within Bay. She has served as a teaching consultant to the Area 3 Writing Project (part of the National Writing Project), for which she created and presented workshops in technology, Socratic seminars and alternative approaches to teaching and writing that included persuasive writing and using voice in academic writing. Lori also coordinates the Teacher Development seminars, in-house professional development, for Bay faculty. 
Rachel Garlin

Rachel Garlin Rachel Garlin happiness essays students  is a multi-disciplinary teacher with over fifteen years of experience in the classroom. She received her BA from Harvard University and her  newspaper online free teaching credential from Cal State. Rachel brings K-12 teaching experience from her work as a middle and high school English teacher,  follow a third grade classroom teacher,  purposive research and a general music instructor across all grade levels. Currently she is the middle school music teacher at Live Oak School in San Francisco. 
Jim Rendle

Jim Rendle

essays management vs leadership Jim Rendle is the Middle School Director at Redwood Day School in Oakland. Prior to joining Redwood Day in 2003, Jim taught 7th/8th grade math and social studies for two years. He was first hired at RDS as the 6th grade math and science teacher, and two years later, became our 7th/8th grade math teacher. In addition to 11 years of teaching experience, Jim has also served as a Middle School advisor for nine years, Middle School dean for six years, and as a faculty representative to the Board of Trustees for two years. Jim holds a B.A. in History from Eastern Nazarene College and an M. Ed in Educational Administration from St. Mary's College.  
Bliss Tobin

Bliss Tobin

go Bliss Tobin is the Elementary Division Head at The Berkeley School. She received her B.A. from Yale and her Masters in Teaching from the University of Chicago. Before joining The Berkeley School in 2014, Bliss served as a teacher and administrator at the San Francisco Friends School.
