Effective Advising In and Out of the Classroom (LA)
presentation in In schools, every adult has occasion to be an advisor to students, whether in an official counseling capacity or informally as a classroom teacher, administrator, class dean, coach, or staff member. This can be a rewarding part of our work, especially when we feel equipped to handle a wide range of conversations and situations, often “on the run.”
thesis topics ent This two-day workshop is designed for all educators who work with Middle and Upper School students. Participants will strengthen their advising skills through discussing adolescent development and exploring authentic scenarios that call upon good judgment from adults. We will learn how to better support a student who is going through a crisis or who is struggling to navigate the sometimes-turbulent waters of growing up by using counseling tools and specific protocols for working one-on-one with students. We will practice ways to effectively build trust, gain insight, and refer out when needed. The purpose of this workshop is to make each of us a better advisor, one who can safely and appropriately support students and families in challenging situations. We encourage school teams to attend.
