Developing a Diversity-Responsive Curriculum: A Hands-On Workshop for K-12 Teachers
We now understand the value of diversity in our classrooms, but aligning our curricula with those same principles can be daunting. Join us for this day-long workshop where we will apply theories of anti-bias education to the work we do everyday in our classrooms. For the first part of the day, we will review several different models for shifting our curricula to align with best practices and to be more responsive to the children in our classrooms. Then, teachers will have time to work on a particular aspect of their curricula to make it more inclusive and equitable. We will also make use of peer teams to help refine and develop our work. Teachers should plan to bring a particular unit, lesson, or theme they want to develop as a significant portion of our time together will be spent working on individual projects and allowing time for reflection and feedback from colleagues. This session is open to all teachers in all subject matters as we will be looking at both developmental as well as pedagogical strategies for improving our teaching.
- This workshop is ideal for classroom teachers, as well as diversity coordinators/directors, service-learning coordinators, deans, etc.
- We encourage you to attend with colleagues from your school
